Constitution of the Zixton Old Students Association (ZOSA)

The Constitution of the Zixton Old Students Association provides the framework for the governance, operations, objectives, and responsibilities of the Association and its members.

The Constitution of the Zixton Old Students Association (ZOSA) serves as the guiding document of the Association. It defines the objectives, membership requirements, governance structure, financial responsibilities, and operational procedures that ensure the continued growth and unity of the Zixton community.


Name:

The Association shall be known and called: ZIXTON OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION. The Association shall be non-political, non-sectarian and non-religious.

Motto:

The Motto of the Association is: KNOWLEDGE FOR TRUTH AND GOODNESS, as in ZIXTON schools.

Logo:

The Logo of the Association shall be GREEN GRASS, OPEN BOOK AND BIRD IN FLIGHT, as in ZIXTON schools.

The objectives of the Association are to:

  • Contribute to the development of Zixton Primary and Secondary Schools.
  • Promote social and cultural interactions among old students.
  • Encourage sporting activities, especially football.
  • Co-operate with organizations with similar objectives.
  • Strengthen unity among members worldwide.
  • Promote charitable and benevolent activities.

Membership is open to all former students who spent at least one academic session at Zixton.

  • Ordinary Member โ€“ Registration Fee: โ‚ฆ5,000
  • Associate Member โ€“ Current students.
  • Honorary Member โ€“ Friends and benefactors of ZOSA.
  • Life Member โ€“ One-time fee of โ‚ฆ250,000.

A register of members shall be maintained and membership cards issued.

ZOSA shall hold:

  • At least two General Meetings every year.
  • Executive meetings as necessary.
  • Biennial Conventions every two years.
  • Emergency meetings when required.

Branches may be established where there are at least seven financial members.

The minimum attendance required for official meetings shall be:

  • General Meeting โ€“ 10 members including the President or Vice President.
  • Executive Meeting โ€“ At least half of Executive members.
  • Branch Meetings โ€“ As determined by branch by-laws.

The Association shall consist of:

  • The General House
  • The Central Executive Council
  • The Board of Trustees (BOT)

The Executive Council shall include the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Provost and Ex-Officio members.

Executive officers shall serve a term of two years and may seek re-election subject to constitutional provisions.

All officers shall be elected through a democratic process by members of the Association. Winners shall be determined by simple majority vote.

The Board of Trustees shall:

  • Serve as the conscience of the Association.
  • Resolve disputes and impasses.
  • Take custody of assets and liabilities.
  • Raise funds and oversee investments.

  • Monthly Dues โ€“ โ‚ฆ1,000
  • Life Membership Fee โ€“ โ‚ฆ250,000
  • Funds may also be raised through donations, levies and fundraising activities.

Financial members are entitled to various welfare benefits, including support during bereavement, illness and other deserving circumstances as determined by the Association.

ZOSA may organize fundraising activities, annual social events and partner with organizations that support the development of Zixton schools.

Acts of indiscipline including lateness, absence without excuse, misconduct and disorderly behaviour may attract fines or disciplinary sanctions.

The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority of financial members present at a General Meeting.

The Association may make additional bye-laws for its smooth operation whenever necessary.

In the event of dissolution, all debts shall be settled and any remaining assets donated to Zixton Primary and Secondary Schools.
